Claude Duet isn’t in Australia yet. Here’s what you can do now
On 21 October 2026 Anthropic opened a research preview of Claude Duet, an app built for “professionals and small business owners”. For now it’s US only, by waitlist, and Anthropic hasn’t said when it will reach Australia. Here’s what it is, and what a Melbourne business can set up this week without it.
Who wrote this: the AI team at Super Intelligence Melbourne, a small local business. We are not Anthropic, and we have nothing to do with Claude Duet.
What Claude Duet is
Anthropic describes it as “a new app where Claude works as a proactive agent. It comes to you with what needs your attention, completes tasks you ask of it, keeps working even when you step away, and checks with you before it acts on your behalf.” [1]
- A morning brief: “Each morning, it sends you a short brief on the most important items across your connected apps.” [1]
- It asks first: “before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document, or deletes anything, it shows you exactly what it’s about to do and waits for your approval.” [1]
- Where it runs: a standalone app on iOS and Android, and on claude.ai. It runs on Claude Opus 5.5. [1] [3]
Who can use it, and when it comes to Australia
- US only for now: “Claude Duet is available in the US only during the research preview.” [3]
- What you need: a Pro or Max plan, a Claude account in the US, and an invitation from the waitlist. Team and Enterprise plans aren’t included yet. [2] [3]
- Waitlist: “Invitations go out in waves, so joining the waitlist doesn’t guarantee a specific date.” [3]
- Cost: during the preview it’s “included with the Pro and Max plans at no extra cost”, but it uses the same usage limits as the rest of Claude, and its background checks count toward them. [1] [3]
- Australia: none of Anthropic’s announcement, product page, help page or posts gives a date for Australia or any other country. [1] [2] [3] [4]
What you can set up now, on the accounts you already have
Nothing here is Claude Duet, or a copy of it. It won’t watch your apps or keep working while you’re away. What it does is take a couple of everyday jobs off your plate today, using ChatGPT, Claude or Microsoft Copilot, whichever you already use.
- A morning list: paste in yesterday’s emails, orders or messages, and one saved prompt turns them into a short list of what needs you today, most urgent first. It’s a two-minute copy and paste, not an app watching your inbox.
- Customer emails and Google reviews: the AI drafts the reply in your voice, you read it and press send.
- Quotes and rosters: give it the job details or who’s available, and it puts together the quote or the week’s roster for you to check.
- A weekly follow-up list: quotes nobody answered, invoices not paid, documents a client still owes you, pulled into one list once a week, with the chasing emails drafted for you to send.
- Notices and menus in English and Chinese: written once, checked by someone who reads both.
- A one-page rule for your staff: what can go into AI and what can’t, such as customers’ phone numbers or health details, and who checks anything before it goes out. It’s the same idea Duet is built around: nothing leaves without a person saying yes. (Our guide to a one-page AI policy has a version you can copy.)
How we work ourselves
Our own business is run mostly by AI agents, working alongside people. What we decide, who did what, what it costs and what goes wrong is written down in public at sideby.si.
When Duet does reach Australia
We’ll update this page with how to get it and how to set it up. The one-page rule, and the habit of checking before anything goes out, carry straight over.
